Losing a loved one is never easy. When one person passes away, many people who were invested in their life grieve the loss. The deceased one played many roles in this life: a father or mother to one, a grandparent to another, dear friend to many, nephew or niece, aunt or uncle, brother or sister — not to mention all the greats, seconds and those twice-removed. With so many people affected by the significant loss, it is essential to make a way for everyone to say their goodbyes and cherish the memories of the past.
When you are planning on interring the ashes of your loved one, a cremation vault is an ideal (and often required) method to preserve the cremation urn as it is buried in the ground. It also allows a dignified burial site much like if the deceased had been laid to rest in a coffin in the cemetery. Finally, it enables living relatives and friends a location to visit from time to time, leave flowers and pay their respects.
Browse through our selection of vaults and burial urns to find one that would be right for your loved one. Since our ground shipping is always free, the price you see is the price you pay regardless of size or weight.
Cremation vaults provide a secure storage compartment for the burial urn of the deceased. The vault is designed to encase not just the ashes of the deceased but also the container where the ashes are stored. There are a few important things to consider before purchasing a burial vault or urn.
- Urn Vault Size: There are two sizes you need to consider when looking for a burial vault: the size of the vault and the size of the urn. When you are browsing Memorials.com, we always provide measurements of the dimensions of our vaults and urns. With the cremation urns, we give the outside measurements and the capacity it can hold. With our burial vaults, we also provide the external measurements, but, rather than show the capacity, we give an actual inside measurement. Make sure the burial vault is large enough on the inside to hold the cremation urn you choose.
- Requirements for Urn Vaults: Check with the cemetery where you will be burying the cremation vault to see if they have any regulations concerning burial vaults. Vaults serve a purpose beyond protecting the ash container of your loved one; they also provide a stable surface for the earth above. Some cemeteries require a hard material like stone for burial vaults. In these cases, we recommend a granite, marble or cultured stone container.
- Engraving an Urn Vault: Many of our cremation urns come with optional engraving to memorialize your loved one. To preserve the integrity of a burial vault, we do not offer engraving. However, you may adhere an optional engraved plaque or plate to the outside of the urn with adhesive glue (not screws).
- Sealing the Urn Vault: Burial urns must be sealed before burial. There are two basic designs for sealing urns, tongue-in-groove or standard lid. Many of our vaults include adhesive for sealing the cover onto the compartment.
